A Little Love Letter to Oberon, the Town That Held Us.
A quiet love letter to Oberon. As we prepare to move back to Sydney, this is the first of many thank yous to the town that gave us calm, cold, and so much warmth.

A little love letter to the town that let me breathe.
You know those winter coats you buy with the best intentions....wool, padded, timeless but never actually wear because Sydney gives you two chilly mornings and then goes back to summer by lunchtime?
Yeah… I have a whole cabinet full of those.
That’s why Oberon became our little cold-weather haven.
We lived here full-time for the last few years, and it didn’t take long before the locals warmed up to us. We met so many wonderful people -kind, grounded, quietly welcoming. And for a while, this town truly became home. My Oberon closet stayed full of all the layers, coats, and scarves that don’t stand a chance in Sydney’s heat.
But now, things are shifting.
We’ve sold our home in Oberon and are in the process of moving back to Sydney, pulled once again by work and all the demands of city life. It wasn’t an easy decision, and if I’m being honest, it’s still sinking in. We still have a few months before the turnover, so for now, we’re soaking in every moment we can. Holding on to the calm before we shift back into city life.
That’s why I’m writing this.
This post is the first of a little series—a small thank you to a town that embraced us, slowed us down, and gave us space to breathe. A quiet love letter to Oberon. My way of honouring a place changed me in all the best ways.
We're here most weekends or whenever Sydney becomes a furnace. And every time we return, it feels like a deep breath. The crisp air, the silence, the space. My whole body softens when we get here.
Oberon is quiet and beautifully cool. In winter, it snows -proper snow (sometimes). The kind that coats your boots, chills your cheeks, and makes you crave soup and soft jumpers. It’s where my entire winter wardrobe finally gets to live its best life.
It’s not the kind of town trying to be trendy. And that’s exactly why I love it. There’s space to slow down, pine forests to wander, and skies so clear you actually notice the stars again.
We don’t need an itinerary when we’re here. Sometimes we explore a little, grab coffee from one of the local cafés and yes, we’ve tried them all, supporting everyone in our own little way. Then we head back home and just sit on the veranda, enjoy our little view -coffee in hand, wrapped in jackets that finally feel useful. Watching kangaroos boxing (or scratching… or whatever it is they’re doing). And if you’re lucky, a deer might just wander by. We let the day unfold however it wants to, no rush, no plans...just peace.
After living here, I guess I’m a local now, my driver’s license still says so, after all. 😉
So no, this isn’t your typical travel post.
It’s more of a farewell, a thank you, and a promise that this place will always have a piece of me.
If you ever need to escape the Sydney heat or just want to see your breath in the morning again, Oberon’s waiting. Bring your warmest coat. You’ll finally have a reason to wear it. Enjoy the quiet, the view, and the kind of peace that sneaks up on you.
And just a little reminder—especially for those visiting during snow season. I know it’s exciting, and it might feel like a whole new world to you. But for us, and for the locals here, this is home. A little respect goes a long way. Take your photos, make your memories, but please be kind to the space and the people who live here year-round.
And if you spot someone sitting on the veranda, wrapped in an oversized coat with a coffee in hand…
well, that might’ve been me. Or someone who loves this place just as much.
’Til next time, Oberon. You’ll always be more than just a postcode to me. ღ
